David Allen Bass of Jensen Beach, Florida stepped forward to meet his maker on July 9, 2019 at the age of 58. He was born in Toledo, Ohio, where he lived until high school, when his family relocated to Houston, Texas.
After graduation, he did a short stint at West Texas University, but quit to join the US Air Force where he served in a canine unit of the military police. Upon leaving the service he settled in Houston. It was there that he became an industrial electrician, ultimately serving as Job Superintendent on many projects. He lived in Mooresboro, North Carolina for several years before finally realizing his lifelong dream of living beach side in Florida. He was a hard worker but lived for his time off. He craved adventure. Dave never met a stranger nor forgot a joke. His gumbo was legendary. He loved football, music, gold chains, dive bars, the ocean, his Jeep, his family, and his beloved dog, Justin Time. He lived life on his own terms and would say he died as a result of his stubborn refusal to follow doctors’ orders and raising hell for over 40 years. He lived a full, rich life and he had no regrets.
He leaves to mourn his wife, Janet Rice of Jensen Beach, FL, his kids Samantha Bass of San Diego, CA and Michael Bass of Hendersonville, NC, his step-daughter, Brooke Williams of Canton, NC and his grandson Jace Albano, of San Diego, CA. Also left behind are his brothers, John Bass of Austin, TX and Steve Bass of Houston, TX and his mother, Sue Bass of Austin, TX. All of these lives became a little dimmer - and a lot quieter - with his passing.
A beachfront toast will be made to Dave’s memory at sunset on Wednesday, July 17 at Fort DeSoto Park in southwest St. Petersburg, FL.
Memorial contributions to the Military Veterans’ Project would be appreciated.
